Dude One: So, like, she has to look sexy.
Dude Two: But tough.
Dude One: Sexy tough.
Dude Two: Or tough sexy.
Dude One: No, definitely sexy tough.
Dude Two: Have you heard of Sigmund Freud?
And, scene.
So, none-too-subtle Freudian overtones notwithstanding, when did the headgun become the tough gal pose of choice? Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the tender brandishing of firearms by both Angelina Jolie and Lena Headey. (Not that I’m gun crazy in real life. Please, don’t write angry letters). But is there no other way to signal toughness and sensuality than to have a beautiful woman nuzzle the cold, hard steel of a pistol to her forehead with her eyes closed? Or did both “Wanted” and “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” use the same marketing company? In which case, someone is getting paid twice for the same work.
Though perhaps I’m over-thinking it. Perhaps I need to give in to the “Blue Steel” of it all and realize that hot women and big guns has been one of Hollywood’s go-to pairings for decades. And, once I give up on the headdesk aspect, I can finally get to the central question these copycat images pose: Whose headgun is hotter?
